Holiday Happenings in the Houston Area

‘Tis the season to celebrate special gatherings with family and friends. With all the fun activities in the Houston area, it’s not too late to make wonderful holiday memories.

We’ve made a list of events to enjoy and checked it twice. One of them is bound to be in your neighborhood.



Zoo Lights 

Through Jan. 14

Houston Zoo

6200 Hermann Park Dr., Houston

Stroll through the zoo that has been transformed into a winter wonderland. Enjoy hot chocolate, thousands of twinkling lights and life-sized animated animal sculptures.

Festival of Lights

Through Jan. 7

Moody Gardens

One Hope Blvd., Galveston

There’s fun for the whole family at the spectacular Moody Gardens holiday event. Don’t miss the 100-foot slide, ice skating and a mile-long trail of a million+ lights and animated displays sparkling over beautiful Galveston Bay.

Ice at Discovery Green 

Through Jan. 21

1500 McKinney, Houston (downtown)

Ice skate amid the downtown skyline at Discovery Green’s immense 7,716-square-foot outdoor ice skating rink. Plus, family-friendly activities like concerts and movies are scheduled throughout the holidays at the park.



Breakfast with Santa

Dec. 23, 8-10 a.m.

Rainforest Café at Katy Mills Mall

Delight in a bountiful breakfast buffet with Santa, goodie bags, prizes and lots of fun holiday activities. Reservations required. Ticket prices vary.

Santa’s Wonderland 

Dec. 3-24

Bass Pro Shop at Katy Mills Mall

Kids can make crafts, take a photo with Santa and enjoy free games and activities. You must obtain a free Bass Pass in store. They are limited and go quickly each day. Please see website for details.



The Reserve at Magical Winter Lights 

Through Jan. 2

Sun.-Thurs., 5-10 p.m.

Fri.-Sat., 5-11 p.m.

Gulf Greyhound Park

1000 FM 2004 (Entrance on FM 1764, not FM 2004)

La Marque, TX

This event is the largest holiday light festival in Houston and the largest lantern festival of its kind in the U.S. Kids of all ages will love six fascinating themed sections, an interactive dinosaur exhibit, daily acrobatic performances, amusement rides and more.



The Christmas Train 

Dec. 18-23, 6:30-10 p.m.

Victory Camp

1407 Victory Lane, Alvin

All aboard to enjoy a truly unique holiday experience via the Christmas Train. Families will love seeing colorful gingerbread villages, penguin snow lands and life-size storybook illustrations. Trains depart every 7-10 minutes. Cost is $7 for prior purchase and $10 at the station.



Santa Claus Selfies 

Through Dec. 31

Sienna Model Homes

Visit a model home and get a selfie with Santa. Learn more about this event here.



Sugarland Holiday Lights 

Now through Jan 1.

Constellation Field, Sugarland

The fourth annual Sugar Land Holiday Lights event features more than 100 walk-through displays and 2.5 million lights throughout the park! Enjoy food trucks, theme nights and a carnival, too.



Breakfast with Santa 

Friday, Dec. 22, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Rob Fleming Park

6055 Creekside Forest Dr.

This event includes a lavish breakfast, a special craft, holiday music and photos with the Jolly Old Soul himself, Santa. Discounts for families of two or three. Cost is $40 for a resident family of four and $45 for non-resident families of four. Additional family members – $8. Please call 218-210-3850 to register for your spot.
