Current Trends in Home Flooring
There are so many factors to consider when designing your dream home. When you step into a new home, your first interaction with the space is a visual one; however, your first physical contact with the space will be the flooring. The type of floor you set foot on will immediately shape the feel of the space. Flooring is one of the most important elements in a home and influences so many factors that will have an impact on how the space feels in everyday life. So, when it comes to designing a new home, flooring should be a top priority. Trendmaker Homes has gathered a few of our favorite current trends in home flooring – read on to learn more about each one.
Luxury Vinyl Plank
Luxury vinyl plank flooring is quickly becoming a favorite among homeowners for a number of reasons. For one, it’s both affordable and durable. Softer than ceramic or porcelain flooring, it does well in high-traffic areas such as the kitchen, great room and bathroom. Luxury vinyl plank is also warmer on your feet than traditional tile.
One of the biggest advantages is that it’s water-resistant. Whether it’s the kids spilling drinks or your four-legged friend running through the sprinklers and then straight through the house, your floors will be safe from moisture. Plus, luxury vinyl plank is easy to clean and maintain.
Another reason people love luxury vinyl plank? It can take on many different appearances. The patterns, colors and textures used to create vinyl planks are very authentic, giving off the look and feel of more expensive flooring.
What is wood tile, or wood-look tile? You guessed it – it’s tile that looks a lot like wood. Wood-look tile is trending right now and comes with some special advantages.
Like luxury vinyl plank, and unlike actual wood, it’s water-resistant. Wood-look tile does well in moist, humid climates, making it a great option for new homes in Houston.
And if anyone in your family has allergies, wood-look tile may be a good option for your new home since tile doesn’t collect allergens the way carpets and hardwood can. Do you have a furry companion? Another bonus of wood-like tile is that it stands up to scratches from pets’ paws better than wood.
New Tile Shapes and Layouts
A wave of new and unconventional tile shapes and layouts have shown up in 2020. Using different tile cuts in the same space has become very popular and can make for breathtaking interiors. The hexagon is one of our favorite tile shapes. And there’s a wide variety of layout patterns available, including modular patterns, random linear patterns, border patterns and, of course, the sophisticated herringbone pattern.
