3 Easy Ways to Update Your Home for Fall

3 Easy Ways to Update Your Home for Fall

Fall is in the air, which means cooler weather and crisp evenings that are perfect for getting cozy at home. One way to mark the beginning of the season is by updating your spaces with autumnal accents. After all, mixing things up inside your home can bring a welcome change of scenery to your everyday. To welcome the season into your home, Trendmaker Homes shares three easy ways to update your home for fall.

Think cozy fabrics.

Try swapping out lighter summer materials like cotton and linen for somewhat heavier materials and darker colors – think chunky cable knits and fluffy fabrics in browns, golds and reds. Keep fall blankets in easy-to-reach places, such as draped over the sofa or in a decorative basket, so they’re ready to grab and cuddle up with. And, nothing says fall like plaid. Add a few plaid pillows to your living room sofas or reading nooks, and you’re set for the season. Do you have an outdoor living space? Try using flannel or tartan blankets as tablecloths for a cozy, fall-like feel in the backyard.

Bring nature inside.

Take the kids on a nature walk and ask them to pick out 10 fall items – they could be leaves, branches, acorns, stones, etc. At home, use the found fall items to create a table centerpiece by arranging your findings in a decorative glass jar or vase. You can also create a beautiful piece of art to hang on the walls by gathering your leaves and gluing them onto a sheet of paper in the shape of one large autumn leaf. The kids will love being able to see their creative work on display every day.

Another way to bring the outside in is by getting creative with pumpkins and other squash. Place them in unexpected places for a touch of whimsy; for example, a pumpkin or gourd on a bookshelf or entryway table. A bowl of pumpkins, gourds and apples on the kitchen table is also a great way to say, “Hello, fall!” You could even try painting a pumpkin to go with your home’s décor.

Get the scent of fall.

Candles can really help bring the fall vibes into your home. Swap out the lighter colored, summer-scented candles for darker colored candles with fall scents such as apple and cinnamon. Gold accented candle holders add another touch of warmth. And for some easy DIY aromatherapy, you can also place a cinnamon stick into a pot of boiling water and let the warm autumn-y scent fill your home. Or head outside and gather around the fire pit to roast marshmellows.

The beauty of moving into a brand-new Trendmaker home is that your home is already designed for comfort with modern floor plans that are thoughtfully laid out for everyday life. All it needs is your personal touch.
